15.3  Beethoven and the moonlight sonata

At the same time Beethoven wrote his moonlight sonata (here gorgeously performed in the oldest church in Paris) he was writing the Heiligenstadt testement, essentially a suicide note upon learning that his deafness was incurable.  He never sent the note (it was meant for his brothers) instead going on to become one of the greatest composers of all time.
